Writing and Scholarship Planning for College-Bound Students

Welcome! The Writing and Scholarship Planning for College-Bound Students program helps students write outstanding college and scholarship essays. The program, now in its fifth year, has inspired students across the United States to write top-quality essays.

This microsite includes lessons, developed by Scholastic, that teach students essential writing skills--such as how to brainstorm, outline, write, and edit--so that they can become better essay writers.

OBJECTIVE

  • Students will use anecdotal writing to brainstorm essay topic ideas.
  • Students will review methods for overcoming writer's block.
  • Students will evaluate an essay and practice skills in critiquing and editing.
