West Haven + Connecticut

There are plenty of things that make my state, Connecticut, a special place. For one thing, Connecticut is one of the only states that has a female governor, Jodi Rell.

Many tourists travel to Connecticut in the fall to see the leaves change colors. In the spring and summer, tourists come to Connecticut to walk on the sandy beaches. Tourists and residents enjoy winter sports in Connecticut such as skiing and snowboarding.

Tourists also come to see the Mystic Aquarium and Seaport, the Peabody Museum, Groton Submarine Base, and many other attractions. All these attractions help Connecticut’s economy.

Several very famous people come from Connecticut who deserve mentioning. Prudence Crandall had enough courage to go against all odds and open a school for African-Americans many decades ago. Noah Webster impacted the world by putting together a now-famous dictionary.

Nathan Hale, a Connecticut hero, volunteered to spy on the British during the Revolutionary War. When the British caught him, he was executed. His final words were, “I regret that I have but one life to give for my country.”

During the Revolutionary War, West Haven was attacked by the British three times. Thomas Painter was a historical figure that worked to defend the city. He sat on a huge rock looking for British ships.

Another great thing about Connecticut is that it is located near New York and Boston, so residents can easily commute for work, entertainment, and recreation.
