Makayla is in the fifth grade at her school in Iowa, where she is involved in many of her community's musical organizations! Makayla is a member of her school's band, orchestra, and choir.

She is interested in being a journalist when she grows up. As a Scholastic Kid Reporter, she hopes to learn tricks of the trade as well as about the government, elections, and important political figures.

Being in Iowa, Makayla has a good chance of doing just that! Iowa is the first state to hold a caucus during each election year. As a result, candidates lots of time in the state and Iowa has more media attention than any other state during elections.

In her spare time, Makayla likes to read, write, and listen to music. She has one brother and five sisters.
