A rising star, Chloe Conway is a dancer and musician with a passion for reading, writing, and current affairs. Even at age 10, Chloe has managed to accomplish a great deal in the arts. Last year, Chloe performed in the community theatre production of Disney’s The Aristocats.
Beyond pursuing dance and performance, Chloe likes to stay healthy by running on a Junior Olympics cross-country team and swimming for the Manchester Rapids swimming team.
But Chloe’s not just an athlete and actor. She also appreciates the value of expanding her mind through reading and writing. Her favorite book is Island of the Blue Dolphins, indicative of her love of the sea coast and a possible future as a marine biologist.
Writing also takes a front-row seat in her life, particularly when it comes to politics. Chloe was part of the 2007-2008 Scholastic Kids Press Corps team that covered the 2008 Election. She believes that kids should be just as involved in politics as adults.
“[Kids] should think about how the person elected will be [their] President for at least four years, and four years more if they are re-elected,” she says.
Her hometown of Manchester, New Hampshire, holds a special place in her heart, she says, because of its close proximity to ski mountains and the ocean. The diversity of its population also plays a large part in its character.
“I thought about what makes Manchester so special, and the first thing that popped into my head was [that] Manchester’s public schools have so many students that come from all over the world,” she wrote. Twenty countries and more than 15 different languages are represented at Chloe’s school, according to a local teacher she interviewed.
