September 2006
I started to care about writing when I was about 8 or 9 years old, but it wasn’t until middle school that I really became interested in becoming a reporter. So, when my school got the call from Scholastic, I jumped at the opportunity! Now, as a student reporter, my responsibilities are to go to the events that I am assigned and to write about them.
Last May, for example, I went to a media lunch to meet the drivers of the famous Indianapolis 500 race. At the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City, I interviewed Tony Kanaan (friendly and encouraging; he finished 5th in the race), Danica Patrick (intense, to the point; she placed 8th), and others. When I got home, I wrote about the event for the Scholastic News Web site.
It’s hard to juggle my social life and my work (both for school and Scholastic). I may be a bit touchy with deadlines, but it’s important that I keep them. Otherwise, I would never get anything done! Following a schedule helps me manage my time and meet deadlines.
