Lesson 1: Who's Busy in the Fall?
(Fall equinox: September 22, 2009)
Objective: Sort and count similar objects.
Time Required: One 40-minute class period
Materials: Student Worksheet 1, pens/pencils
Directions: Ask students to think about the fall. When does this season occur? What holidays take place? What is the weather like and what happens to the leaves on the trees? Explain that many animals, such as squirrels, are busy during the fall collecting food to survive the winter months ahead. Distribute Student Worksheet 1 and have students complete the activity.
Hands-on Fun: Create a fall-themed bulletin board! Cut a tree trunk and branches out of construction paper or paper grocery bags. Invite students to decorate the tree with fall images, such as leaves, acorns, and the squirrels seen in their worksheets.
