What hit series is brewing up magical adventure and enchanting reviews?  Harry Potter, of course!  With J. K. Rowling’s reported final book of the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, readers are taken on a truly magical journey of disclosures, duplicity, suspense, secrets, and of course, tears!

Scholastic prepared its fans by teaming up with bookstores for Midnight Magic parties across North America when the book was released July 21. There were costume contests, movie screenings, trivia questions, and debates about Rowling’s characters, reminding us about Harry’s mission as the Boy Who Lived. But Harry is no longer that boy from Book 1.

Harry has been tested in every book in the series, and has grown stronger with each threat from a Death Eater and with each battle against Voldemort. These trials brought Harry to the path of his prophecy. He has promised Dumbledore to walk this path with only Ron and Hermione’s knowledge.

In his own mysterious way, Harry’s Headmaster has insinuated that Harry cannot defeat Voldemort and his Death Eaters unless he tracks down and destroys the Horcruxes, containing bits of the Dark Lord’s soul.  Three Horcruxes have already been identified, including Tom Riddle’s diary and the heir of Slytherin’s ring and locket. These reminders at the beginning of the story give way to the questions that plagued Dumbledore until his death: what are the four other Horcruxes and where did Voldemort hide them?

Harry’s search for the remaining Horcruxes takes him away from everything that he has known and had faith in while it sets the stage for his meeting with Voldemort. You couldn’t ask for more suspense and Harry goes into hiding and works to solve the mystery of Voldemort’s power!

So what are the Deathly Hallows? You’ll have to follow the adventure to find out. I don’t want to give too much away, but I will tell you that he gets assistance from the most unlikely of allies.

Rowling answers all the questions that have cropped up in each book, reveals pacts that Dumbledore made behind Harry’s back, and weaves such a suspenseful web that you won’t be able to put the book down until you’re done!
