[PLUGGED IN] Five Big Deals
What's Up This Month...
Pasadena (TX) Independent School District has selected Mizuni Inc.’s information management solution to serve its 56 schools and 50,000 students. Pasadena ISD will implement the full Mizuni Motiv product suite—data integration platform, data warehouse, reporting tools, and Web-based portal—to deliver essential data such as trend analyses of student performance to teachers, administrators, and parents.
Nine schools in four states—Alabama, Connecticut, Mississippi, and Virginia—have opted to use the Talk About It anonymous online messaging service as part of their school safety strategies. Superintendent Sharon Dodson of Henry County (VA) Schools said in a statement that the online service from Mississippi-based AnComm will allow students to talk about problems without revealing their identities, and “let school counselors help them resolve problems before they turn to violence.”
The Hawaii Department of Education partnered with TrueNorthLogic to create a Web-based system providing an easy-to-use professional development and career management application suite—serving more than 30,000 teachers, administrators, civil service employees, and other school support personnel.
San Jose (CA) Unified School District partnered with Chevron Energy Solutions and Bank of America to establish what may be the largest solar power and energy-efficient facilities program in K–12 education in the U.S. The program is expected to provide more than $25 million in energy cost savings to the district over the life of the system, a 25 percent reduction in the district’s demand for utility power, and a reduction of 37,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions—equivalent to planting about 400 acres of trees.
Both the Tucson (AZ) Unified School District and Russell County (VA) Public Schools contracted Tyler Technologies to provide its Tyler Education Management Solution. The system includes applications for recording grades, scheduling, staff management, reporting, attendance, discipline, and transportation.
