An Interview with Hermione Granger

What does Emma Watson have to say about her new film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?
"I think it's going to be mind-blowing," she said excitedly.
Emma recently talked with Scholastic News Online about the new movie, the new book, and life after Harry Potter. Read on to find out what she had to say!
Q: You've been known to say in the past that you and the sometimes-uptight Hermione are very different people, but that point-of-view seems to have changed over the years.
Emma Watson: Yeah, I used to be in strong denial that I was anything like her. But I'm thinking it's kind of a compliment now. I think she's a bit of a role model and she's got some really great things going for her. So I kind of like it now.
Q: You also use the phrase "girl power" when you refer to Hermione. What does "girl power" mean to you?
Emma: I'm a bit of a feminist. It's really important to stand up for yourself, whether you're a girl or a boy. But that's also true for Hermione because she's never afraid to take control of a situation or be the brains behind anything. She says what she thinks and doesn't hold back. In many ways, she bosses the boys around, which I think is kind of cool. I think they need her. That's girl power.
Q: What's your favorite scene in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?
Emma: Gosh! I think it would have to be the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort. I've seen some of the special effects that are going into that and I think it's going to look incredible. I think it's going to be mind-blowing!
Q: Are you looking forward to the final Harry Potter book?
Emma: Yeah! I'm really looking forward to it.
Q: Do want anything to happen in particular?
Emma: I just want a really satisfying ending. I want it to end in a way that really completes the story. Something that's satisfying that doesn't leave too many open questions—that's something that always really annoys me.
Q: Besides the Harry Potter books, what's your all-time favorite book?
Emma: The Shadow of the Wind.
Q: Do you have a favorite author?
Emma: I love Philip Pullman.
Q: This is your fifth movie with Rupert, Daniel, and all of the others. Your relationship with them has obviously changed since you were 11. How was getting back together with them?
Emma: It's been nice. It's always nice to see them after being away. We get to catch up. It was great.
Q: After you finish the last two movies, what would you like to do next in your career?
Emma: I really don't know. I just want to fall in love with script and act in something that I feel really good about acting in. But there's nothing specific that I'm looking for right now.
Q: What will you say later in life when people ask you, "What do you remember most about making the Harry Potter movies?"
Emma: What an amazing experience it was, how much it changed my life, and how much I learned from it.
Q: What is the one thing that you want your fans to know about you that they don't already?
Emma: I'd like them to know that I really appreciate their support and I really hope that they like the new film. I think it will exceed their expectations!
