Spider-Man Week in New York City started off with a bang. Spider-Man 3 had its red (or in this case, black) carpet premiere in Queens. What better place to celebrate Spidey? After all, Queens is Peter Parker's hometown.

This was probably one of the biggest events that ever happened in the borough. Hundreds of Spidey fans eagerly awaited the arrival of Spider-Man himself—Tobey Maguire.

While I watched for Tobey's arrival, I talked with George Whipple, from New York One. The journalist is one of many press members who went to the red-carpet interview and premiere to interview the actors in the movie.

He described Spider-Man 3 as “the most expensive film ever made.” According to Whipple, though, the studio should make the money back, and much more.

“[Spider-Man 3] is opening up in 30,000 theatres worldwide on the exact same day,” Whipple said, “which is really amazing.”

As the film's stars began to arrive, the crowd started to chant “Tobey! Tobey!”

The first actor to arrive on the carpet was Dylan Baker, who plays Dr. Curt Conners. The crowd greeted him with excited shouts.

Soon, Sam Raimi, the director of the movie, came and shook hands with people in the crowd. Everyone rushed to get a paper and pencil so that they could get the director's autoograph.

Then, the person everyone had been waiting for—Tobey Maguire, otherwise known as Peter Parker—finally arrived. By this time, the crowd was really out of control. Tobey was all smiles as he shook hands with people.

It was a great day for the neighborhood.
