Look Up to the Sky!
Clouds can inspire creativity.
What you need:
• White construction paper
• Large piece of blue paper
• Glue
• Markers or pencils
What to do:
1. Play a cloud game. Begin by talking with your child about what she sees when she looks up into the sky. Then go on a cloud-watching adventure. Lie down with your child and gaze up at the clouds. Take turns imagining creatures, animals, buildings, and trees as the clouds pass by. Try telling stories to each other about the shapes.
2. Make your own clouds. Give your child a piece of white construction paper. Ask him to tear it into different free-form shapes, like clouds. Ask him to examine the shape by turning it all around. This will help him to develop an image of some kind. What does the paper look like to him? He can imagine anything! Then glue the cloud shape onto blue paper. Under the shape, ask him to write: My cloud looks like ...
3. Guess this cloud. Invite your child to paste his cloud shape onto paper. Have him write his idea of what it looks like on the back. Remind him not to tell. Together or with other family members, try to guess what his interpretation of the shape.
